Hønen and Hanen

Welcome to Hønen & Hanen – a restaurant with deep roots in the history of Hønefoss and a new chapter in the heart of town.

Our story

For many years, Hønen & Hanen was a well-loved place to eat in Hønefoss – known for its varied menu and friendly atmosphere. Former owner Ivar Østlund looks back fondly on the days when guests could enjoy good food at fair prices.

In April 2025, Hønen & Hanen returned under the leadership of Khaled A. Mahmoud. The restaurant has moved into the former Pampas premises at Søndre Torv 4B and has been thoroughly renovated to create a modern and welcoming atmosphere.

Our vision

We want to bring back the great atmosphere and flavourful dishes that made Hønen & Hanen a favourite for so many guests.

With a menu inspired by classic dishes and modern flavours – and a focus on quality and service – we hope to create new memories for both returning and first-time guests.

You will find us in the centre of Hønefoss – in the newly renovated premises at Søndre Torv 4B. Hønen & Hanen seats around 45 guests indoors and 15 outdoors, and we warmly welcome both small and larger groups.
